Using an ankle strap for cable machine kickbacks is a common and effective way to target and strengthen the muscles in your glutes, particularly the gluteus maximus. Make sure the cable machine is set up at the appropriate height. Set the cable machine to a low position. The height should be adjusted to be just above the ankle. Stand facing the cable machine with the ankle strap on your working leg. Hold onto a nearby support (if available) for balance. Lift your working leg slightly off the ground and extend it straight behind you. Keep a slight bend in the knee for comfort. Tighten your core muscles to stabilize your spine and pelvis. Keeping your knee slightly bent, kick your leg back in a controlled manner until your thigh is in line with your torso or slightly above. Focus on using your glutes to lift the leg. Slowly bring your leg back to the starting position, resisting the pull of the cable. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions on one leg before switching to the other leg.
