Wedge Footwear are used immediately after a patient has had foot surgery.
They offload pressure from the part of the foot which has had surgery to the other areas. This reduced pressure and pain at the surgical site and speeds up healing.
Wedge Footwear are of three types depending on which part of the sole has a wedge.
Anterior Wedge
Offloads pressure from forefoot to heel
Mid Wedge
Offloads pressure from midfoot to forefoot and heel
Posterior Wedge
Offloads pressure from heel to forefoot
Normal
To be worn on the foot other than the one where surgery has been done
The upper part of these footwear are made of soft fabric and the soles are made of hard material to support the injured foot.
