TECHNICAL DETAILS

Contents: Plain Stockinette, Orthopaedic Bandage, Cotton Compression Bandage, Cotton and Rubber Elastic Bandage B.P., Cohesive Bandage
Plain Stockinette: For securing the wound dressing.
Orthopaedic Bandage: Absorbs exudate. Redistributes pressure around limb.
Cotton Compression Bandage: This is considered to be the second layer of the system. This will flatten the padding layer and aid absorbency of the orthopaedic bandage.
Cotton and Rubber Elastic Bandage: Provides higher pressure at the ankle, with decreasing pressure exhibited at the calf to help improve upward blood flow. It is essential that the correct technique and pressure is used while applying the bandage.
Cohesive Bandage : This layer provides the higher level of compression(sub-bandage pressure approximately 23mmHg) and must not be over-extended.

Directions for use

Apply dressing of choice to the limb. Before applying dressing under 4 LB, refer to manufacturer’s instructions for use under compression prior to application. Secure it using

Layer 1 : Do not use if pouch is opened or damaged. Remove from the pack with sterile forceps and apply over the wound dressing. Hold in place until covered by Layer 2.

Layer 2: Start applying the orthopaedic bandage from the base of the toes to the knee in spiral fashion with 50% overlap. It must always be used under compression bandages. However, care must be taken not to use too much padding as this will increase the limb width significantly.

Layer 3: Apply the light compression bandage in a spiral fashion at 50% extension and 50% overlap, from toe to knee. This is considered to be the second layer of the system. This will flatten the padding layer and aid absorbency of the orthopaedic bandage.

Layer 4: It is essential that the correct technique and pressure is used. Apply from the base of the toes to the knee, using figure of eight technique at 50% extension and 50% overlap. Use tape to secure.
